Shannon Smith, LCMHC
Company Role: Mental Health Therapist and Clinical Director
A little about me: I’m originally from Virginia Beach, VA, but in 2020, I made the move to Charlotte with my now-husband. Together, we share our home with three beloved fur babies: Petey, our playful dog, and two adorable cats, Sox and Binx. I’m happiest spending sunny days boating on the lake or exploring the great outdoors. My husband and I love strolling along the greenways with Petey, tackling rock climbing adventures, and unwinding at home with cozy snuggles from our furry companions.
Specialities and ages I like to work with include: Anxiety, Depression, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma, PTSD, Self Esteem, and Women’s Issues. Typically, I like to work with ages 8 and up.
How I describe myself as a therapist:
- Warm – Exudes kindness and genuine care, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
- Curious – Shows a strong interest in the client’s experiences exploring them from various perspectives
- Compassionate – Emphasizes empathy and understanding
Experience: I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Human Development from Virginia Tech and went on to complete my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Old Dominion University. During graduate school, I gained valuable experience through my practicum and internship at a mental health clinic within the Sentara Ambulatory Care Center in Norfolk, VA. Since then, I’ve been proud to be a part of the team at L&B Counseling!
Insurance: Self Pay Only / Out-of-Network (OON) – Superbills available for potential reimbursement
What type of light my energy represents: Moonlight: Soft, reflective, and calming
My Go To Karaoke Song: New Romantics by Taylor Swift
Fun Fact: If I hadn’t become a therapist, I would enjoy pursuing a career as an FBI detective.
